Paul Boéchat founded the company Wenger in 1893 under the name Paul Boéchat & Cie. The former headquarters was in the town of Courtételle in the Swiss canton of Jura. A group of investors bought the company in 1895 and named it first in Fabrique Suisse de Coutellerie S.A. order was then renamed to 1900 after a merger with the Basel cutlery factory, the company then in Schweizer Besteckfabrik (Swiss cutlery factory). At the same time they moved the company’s headquarters into the neighbour town of Delémont, where Wenger still has its headquarters remained. In 1901 Wenger began to supply the Swiss Army with until today famous "real" Swiss army knife for the first time. A few years later in 1898 the acting director Theo Wenger changed the company’s name into Wenger & Co. after he had bought the factory. The growing international brand finally in 1922 got its current name Wenger S.A. After nearly 100 years of success came the economic slump for complete pocket knife production as a result of the attacks 9 / 11 and the associated new international air safety regulations. Before Wenger could restructure its corporate focus on new bags and accessories, the financial burden had become so heavy that the sale of the company was imminent. Finally in 2005 the former opponent Victorinox Wenger bought the company in order to avert a foreign purchase by foreign investors because otherwise they feared loss of reputation for the famous Swiss Army knife. Despite this major acquisition Wenger was retained as an independent brand and is completely independent in the development, production and marketing of its SwissGear bags and accessories. Outwardly Victorinox and Wenger still occur as a competing manufacturers in the segment knifes and bags. The Swiss manufacturer Wenger was one of the few companies whiche had the privilege to use the famous "Swiss cross" as the emblem on their bags as a sign of high Swiss quality. By producing high quality and durable SwissGear business bags and leisure bags themselves Wenger has also developed rapidly in this remarkable international reputation. Wenger Swissgear bags, travel bags, backpacks and laptop bags are a worldwide reputation for "Swiss quality". As once the famous Swiss knife Wenger Laptop Bags stick out because of sophisticated detailing such as special shock-protected laptop safes and extremely durable material for extreme loads. No matter which application you need your pocket for, a Wenger bag resists to nearly all outside influences.
